Spay/Neuter Support (SNS):

A Proactive Step Towards Pet Population Control

About SNS

The Spay/Neuter Support (SNS) program is a new Friends of PACC project to make spay and neuter care available to Pima County residents who might not otherwise be able to access it.  Through the SNS program, qualifying pet families can access reduced-cost spay/neuter surgeries for owned dogs or community cats.

The SNS program is funded by a grant from Pima County and matched by donations raised by Friends of PACC. The goal of the program is to help reduce overcrowding at Pima Animal Care Center (PACC). As a result, services are focused on the animals which are most likely to be relinquished to the shelter.

Spay/Neuter Support for Dogs

Under the SNS program, participating veterinary clinics offer qualifying families spay/neuter surgeries for $35. Some clinics also offer additional services such as vaccines and microchips. To qualify, clients must live in Pima County, and their dog must be 40 lbs. or larger or a puppy expected to be that size at maturity. To ensure services are provided to those most in need, clients must be able to present one of the following to verify qualification:

-        AHCCCS card

-        EBT card

-        Tribal Nation enrollment card/paperwork

-        Proof of child enrollment in the National School Lunch Program

-        Proof of residence in 85705, 85706, 85713, 85746, or 85756 ZIP codes

-        IRS 1040 form or 3 months of recent pay stubs indicating qualifying maximum income

Clients should contact participating clinics directly to schedule appointments, provide the necessary proof of eligibility, and pay the $35 co-payment. The participating clinics are:

Spay/Neuter Support for Community Cats

Under the SNS program, participating veterinary clinics offer no-cost spay/neuter surgeries for free-roaming community cats. Commonly known as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), caretakers can bring community cats to the participating clinics where the cats will receive spay/neuter, vaccination, microchip, and an ear tip. There are no costs to these services, and the only qualification is that the cat must be from a colony within Pima County and the caretaker has a Pima County address.

TNR appointments are limited; please contact the participating clinic directly for availability, scheduling, and pre-surgical care information. The participating clinics are:

Snip ‘n’ Tip at PACC

In partnership with Pima Animal Care Center, the SNS program funds bi-annual Snip ‘n’ Tip events, providing large-scale Trap-Neuter-Return events for community cats. Snip ‘n’ Tip events typically occur one weekend in the Fall and one weekend in the Spring, providing care for up to 1,200 cats annually. Follow PACC’s website or social media for the dates and times of the events.

🤓 Did you know?

According to studies, one unspayed female dog AND her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in just six years.

In cats, one unspayed female AND her descendants can result in a staggering 370,000 kittens in seven years.

Spaying and neutering are critical in preventing these exponential increases, helping to reduce the number of homeless pets and the strain on shelters.

Spaying or neutering your pets doesn't just prevent unexpected litters; it has profound health and behavioral benefits!

Surgeries can extend your pets' lifespans by 3-5 years and significantly reduce their risk of developing cancer.

Impact of Your Donation

In mere years, a single unaltered pet can lead to hundreds of offspring, perpetuating the cycle of shelter overcrowding. Your contribution to SNS not only aids in preventative care but also paves the way for a future where fewer animals face the uncertainty of shelter life. Join us in this vital mission—your support has the power to change lives.

To support this crucial initiative, please consider becoming a monthly donor. Even a modest monthly donation of $5 accumulates to a significant $60 a year—contributing greatly to our efforts.

Spay/Neuter Support (SNS) Endowment: Friends of PACC has created a $480,000 fund to facilitate accessible spay and neuter for vulnerable families in our community. However, these services must be performed year after year to be truly effective. The SNS Endowment will create a permanent pool of funds dedicated to maintaining and growing spay and neuter care in Pima County, establishing a long-term and sustainable solution to pet overpopulation.

Friends of PACC welcomes current year donations or planned gifts, including bequests from a Trust, Will, IRA, or life insurance policy, towards the endowment. Imagine your legacy helping to prevent unnecessary animal euthanasia for decades to come!
