Join the Cause: Friends of PACC’s “Big Fix Week" Offers Free Spay/Neuter Events

Friends of Pima Animal Care Center has taken a significant step to control pet homelessness in Pima County. In collaboration with ASAVET Charities, they're hosting “Big Fix Week,” offering several days of free spay/neuter clinics for specific dog breeds.

The event's main objective is to focus on the breeds most commonly seen in the shelter. These include large breeds such as Pit Bull types, Huskies, and German Shepherds. On the smaller end of the scale, Chihuahuas and their mixes are eligible. The important point to note is that these clinics are only open to Pima County residents.

The clinics are scheduled on three different dates and locations, all starting at 8 a.m.:

•June 15 at iHeart Media Studios

3202 N. Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ

•June 16 at Catalina Community Center

Catalina Community Center

16562 N. Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ

•June 17 at Santa Cruz Veterinary Clinic

5408 S. 12th Ave. Tucson, AZ

Limited spots are available at each location for both large and small breeds, so you should arrive early to secure your place. Remember, your dogs need to be on leashes or in crates!

There are specific conditions to be met for participation. Your pet should belong to one of the eligible breeds, and only two dogs per household are allowed. Fasting is required for dogs older than five months, starting from midnight before the surgery. However, pets under five months do not need to fast. All pets must be a minimum of two months old and weigh two pounds.

Why participate in such an event? Laura O’Brien, Friends of PACC’s board chair, believes that events like these benefit both the individual and the pet population. "By spaying and neutering your pet, they will experience so many crucial health benefits, and you'll help control the pet homelessness crisis in Pima County,” says O’Brien.
