Free Custom Pet ID Tags: A Step Towards Pet Safety

In a move to increase pet safety and reduce shelter intakes, Pima Animal Care Center (PACC), in collaboration with Friends of PACC, is introducing a valuable initiative for pet owners. Starting December 21, they're offering free customized ID tags for pets, aiming to keep pets with their loving families. This generous offer is available to anyone adopting, fostering, or reclaiming a pet from PACC and the general public.

The Central Pet store is the go-to spot to claim your pet's ID tag, located in the Freeman Adoption Lobby at PACC (4000 N Silverbell Rd, Tucson, AZ 85745). Generally operating Monday to Friday between 12-7 pm, Wednesday from 1:30-7 pm, and weekends from 10 am to 5 pm, the store is accessible to the public. It's important to note that guests must check in at least 45 minutes before closing time for adoption and admission services.

Monica Dangler, Director of Animal Services at PACC, highlights the importance of this initiative. She emphasizes that a visible ID tag significantly increases the chances of a lost pet returning home, bypassing the need for shelter resources. This effort, backed by Friends of PACC and their Giving Tuesday donors, is a promising step towards enhancing PACC’s lost and found programming and easing the shelter’s burden during peak times.

Laura O’Brien, Friends of PACC’s Board Chair, emphasizes the significance of this new initiative. “An ID tag is a universal symbol indicating a found pet has a family; what better way to get a pet back home as fast as possible?” she says. This effort aligns with Friends of PACC's commitment to animal welfare and hopes to alleviate the shelter's burden, especially during the holiday season.
