Sooey's happily ever after

Sooey is one lucky dog. She came to Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) malnourished and in need of surgery for her cleft palate—a case so severe that both her hard and soft palates needed repair. Her condition put her at risk for aspiration pneumonia and made it difficult for her to eat or drink.

Sooey when she first arrived at PACC - only 3 pounds!

With the care of a loving foster mom (turned forever mom!) and incredible support from our donors, Sooey had her surgery, gained a healthy weight, and lives a very happy life with her forever mom!

Sooey has gone through her first cleft palate surgery with little to no complications. Sooey was only allowed to eat wet food and no treats for six weeks—that was hard for her family to do. She can now eat food and drink water like a normal young puppy! And the best news is that it’s possible Sooey won’t need a second palate surgery.

Sooey’s mom says that “she is a happy pup who has gone on some very fun adventures like camping in Patagonia, doggy play groups, and a weeklong camping trip to the dunes in California where she got to ride in a RZR!”
